About Ocean

Ocean is a metaphor for the immeasurably vast love of God. It is a vision of a community of people whose highest priority is loving one another as God loves us. This gathering of people may be quite diverse yet are bound together in the unity of the Spirit. This loving unity is the necessary context for our spiritual growth, healing, and transformation into the image of the One who first loved us.

How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! …For there the Lord bestows his blessing, even life forevermore.”   Psalm 133

The Ocean vision began to take shape in 2011 with three Anglican clergy friends who shared a common vision for a loving and safe community.  Having been recipients of God’s “wastefulness of grace” and the healing power of Jesus in prayer, we each desired to create a community in which others could come experience the same. Praying through the twists and turns of discerning vision and calling, we decided to incorporate in 2013 as Ocean Healing Community, Inc. However, the pieces seemed to stop coming together in 2014.  Was Ocean just a whimsical dream? Were the three of us mistaken in our common vision and hearts’ desire? I don’t believe so. Visions sometimes have a way of eluding us when we think we have a grasp on them. I think it is God’s way of beckoning us to seek His face. For it is more important to seek the giver of vision than the vision itself.  So for now we pray.  Perhaps Ocean is yet for a future time. Perhaps God wants each of our churches to be where Ocean begins. I don’t know. I DO know that Ocean is of Him and He will bring it to pass in His perfect time.

“For the vision is yet for the appointed time; It hastens toward the goal and it will not fail. Though it tarries, wait for it; For it will certainly come, it will not delay.”  Habakkuk 2:3
